It was impressive how little cohesive data there was between Arctic countries while going through the database. Many topics that would have been fascinating to compare were not characterized with the same years, variables, or studies between countries, which was rather frustrating.
I also found the idea of ‘well being’ to be difficult when looking at data, as I perceive community ‘well being’ through a very westernized ideology. While to me, the number of people leaving a community to seek higher education or schooling is a sign of health, this is not not necessarily need to be the case for smaller villages. I was also interested in overall wages and wage disparity, however financial earnings may not be a kind of reflector of well being in places that have very different values.
Overall I chose to look at different countries death census under the filters of deaths by alcohol induced accidents, alcohol poisonings, and disease deaths. I chose Norway, Sweden and Finland due to their proximity to each other, and was surprised the results varied so widely.
